Irina, the daughter of a Moldovan father and a Ukrainian mother, who in her youth lived in the beautiful Crimea, was devasted when the war in Ukraine had started, and couldn’t sit idly by and watch Ukraine being destroyed by Russia.
She speaks Romanian, Russian, some Ukrainian, and some Spanish, so she volunteered before as a translator for Seattle’s Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, and hosted Afghani refugees at her home through World Relief. She is also active in the Moldovan community in the USA.
But these are not ordinary times, so she asked herself what she can do to help Ukraine? That’s when she took in the first Ukrainian family, who became refugees because of this war, and ultimately became an active member of Ukraine Defense Support.
